The Robin
1st March 2012
What a day today.... The sort of day that makes you feel good to be alive, sun shining with temperatures in the 60's. Out in the 'Fields of Plenty'
I enjoyed my sandwiches with the dogs at my feet and the Robins beautiful birds, it is always a pleasure to see and welcome these birds and other birds into the field.
Last year they were positioned about every 25Mtrs down the hedgerows with the males violently protecting their territory and the females singing their heads off. Lets hope we get to see this again this Spring. I have also noticed a lot more Hedge Sparrows this year, when I was a kid they were very populated. See how many you can see in your gardens, they are great fun to watch.
The 'Fields of
Plenty'
From when I was knee high to a grasshopper I have
always wanted to grow vegetables, my Granddad used to take me to his vegetable
allotment and his large back garden where he used to grow all sorts of
fantastic vegetables. So when my grandma
used to cook it was using all the great produce from his allotment and garden.
The potatoes were grown there, the tomatoes and everything else. He also reared hens for both meat and eggs.
So when I got a chance, after my first and second
career I thought if I get some land I would build a growing area and if
possible some rearing land for animals. I managed last year to be lucky enough
to get ‘The Fields of Plenty’.
This is what you will see me do when you follow
me on this venture, because I know very little about growing my own stuff
or rearing animals only what, I can remember all those years ago, what granddad
told me. But I want to learn. My wife is a great cook and all of us in the
family like to cook, so lets have fresh grown produce from the ‘Fields of
Plenty’ and if you can help me along the way please do. I will share your
expertise with the world on this blog after I have learnt from your knowledge.
